This course is designed to provide the linguistic and cultural context necessary for overseas qualified and experienced engineers to operate within the Australian mining, oil and gas industries. The course aims to develop the language specific skills in the spoken and written language which will increase the employability of its participants. The participants will also have the opportunity to read, digest and analyse the large amount of written material with which they need to be familiar.
This is a 10 week full-time English Course of 20 contact hours per week. The course is designed for a specific group and the outcomes are aimed at preparing that group with the linguistic and cultural skills to enter the Australian workplace.
This course is, therefore, only suitable for students with a particular profile. This is a stand alone course with specific work related language outcomes. It is not anticipated that graduates from this course will wish to undertake any further English courses or mainstream study in Australia.
The broad aim of this course is to equip the learners with the language and culture to be able to operate safely and confidently alongside Australian workers in the mining, oil and gas industries and to be able to relate to those who are both their line managers and those whom they are required to manage.
The expected overall outcome of this course is that participants will secure skilled employment in an Australian mining, oil or gas industry setting and successfully operate in the positions held.
In order to be accepted for this course students must have:
• A recognised bachelor degree.
• 7 -10 years relevant industry experience.
• At least 4,500 hours leading and directing projects.
• 35 hours minimum project management education.
• An overall IELTS score of 6 ( with no subscore of less than 6).
• A positive skills assessment in a nominated skilled occupation.
